transavia.com celebrates its 45th anniversary

Schiphol, 16 november 2011

Today, it was 45 years ago that this airline operated its very first commercial flight: from Amsterdam to Naples. On board were members of the Nederlands Dans Theater and the Nederlands Balletorkest. Included were Alexandra Radius and Han Ebbelaar, our national ballet hero’s. They were placed in the spotlights yesterday. Passengers on the early flight to Naples this morning got a special treat to mark the occasion. Business partners will be receiving a cake today.
transavia.com is treating all its customers to a Happy Birthday Sale. Starting today at 10:00 a.m. and lasting for 45 hours, the fares for 45 top destinations will be even lower than usual. And the cherry on the top is that anyone born on 16 November 1966 can book a free flight today on their birthday.
‘We are proud to have been part of the holidays and little getaways for millions of Dutch passengers for 45 years’, says Bram Gräber, CEO of transavia.com. ‘And our enthusiastic staff will be doing everything possible to keep it that way for the next 45 years. With this in mind, we will soon be expanding by adding extra flights from the Eindhoven and Rotterdam regions. We’ll also continue to add destinations for city getaways departing from various Dutch airports. This next April, for example, we’ll start flying to Seville. As always, our company is committed to efficiency and improving the services we provide our passengers. Good examples are our introduction of new leather upholstery for all the seats in our fleet and the launch of a new app early next year.’
The airline Transavia Holland operated its first flight with a DC-6 from Amsterdam to Naples in 1966. After that, Transavia became a big name in charter flights to holiday destinations. Scheduled services were added in 1986. The ‘low fare’ model was launched with the introduction of the Basiq Air brand. In 2004, the airline received the name it has now: transavia.com.
