There is a good road network on Lanzarote and most sights can be reached by public transport. All resorts can be reached from Arrecife.
Timanfaya National Park
UNESCO designated the volcanic plain of Timanfaya as a national park in 1993. The 200 square kilometre area covers an interesting geological phenomenon and accommodates 180 varieties of plants. Only 10 meters lower, in the heart of the earth, the temperature is as much as 600 degrees! Timanfaya is a living laboratory for biological research. The area was completely destroyed by a number of volcanic eruptions between 1730 and 1736 and again in 1824.Public transport: local bus (guaguas); you can ride to the Fire Mountain on a hired camel, hire a car or take a taxi.
Puerto del Carmen
Low little houses and more than 6 kilometres of golden beach. Welcome to Lanzarote's tourist centre. Water sports such as windsurfing, diving and fishing are popular. There is a wide range of restaurants, night life and shops. The César Manrique Foundation at Taro de Tahiche
The studio and home of the world famous architect César Manrique (1919-1992) accommodate both his foundation and an art collection with works by Picasso, Miró and Chillida, amongst others. The house is a perfect example of César Manrique's art. Volcanic bubbles are integrated into the modern architecture. The building and garden were laid on a lava mountain from the period of the volcanic eruptions of 1730 to 1736.Address: Taro de Tahiche
