Lanzarote is a duty-free area and that means low prices - especially for alcohol, perfume, Cuban cigars and cigarettes. If you want to take something back with you that is typical of the island of Lanzarote, may we recommend locally-made lace, baskets or pottery made by the local population, the guancher.

There are shops at all major places; in Calle Real, which is really called Calle León y Castillo, in Arrecife, in the Biosfera shopping centre in Puerto del Carmen (with garment businesses like Zara) and in the Deiland Centre in Playa Honda, where in addition to all kinds of shops, you can also find snug cafés and a cinema. Try to negotiate a discount, that's part of the game. There is a market every Sunday in Lanzarote's old capital, Teguise. Here you will find everything - from jewellery to paintings and local wine. There is an art and crafts market in Pueblo Marinero on Friday evenings. The shops here stay open and a lively atmosphere reigns in the cafés.
