Isla de los Lobos

Nowadays, despite having the name Seal island, you will not find any sea mammals on the beach of this small island. But what you do get, as you make the 3-kilometre ferry crossing, is the feeling of ‘getting away from it all’.

Parque Natural Corralejo

Behind the northern holiday spot of Corralejo lies the ‘Lawrence of Arabia’ recreation area of the nature park: 20 square kilometres of rolling sand dunes and unique flora.

Ship wreck of the American Star

There is something unnerving and at the same time fascinating about standing eye to eye with the wreck of a stranded ocean liner. Although the sea has claimed a great deal from the SS American Star since it was wrecked in 1994, the bow still emerges defiantly from the shallow water.
Address: Playa de Garcey

Lajares

Travel 10 kilometres south of Corralejo to Artisania Lajares, where you can see how the island's famous lace is woven.
Address: 14, Calle Coronel Gonzalez del Hierro, Lajares

Beach life

Fuerteventura has 152 beaches, which is more than any other Canary Island. A selection of the best is provided below.

The best beach for facilities

Corralejo - The city beach of Corralejo, near the holiday resorts and their facilities, is a safe piece of beach for water fun enthusiasts.
Location: A few steps from the centre of Corralejo.

The best beach for families

Caleta de Fuste - The friendly, sloping sand dunes of a holiday resort built specially for this purpose are extremely suitable for families with young children and the absence of dangerous currents makes them safe for swimmers of all levels.
Transport: Take bus number 6 from Corralejo to Puerto del Rosario, then bus number 3 or number 10 from Puerto del Rosario to Caleta de Fuste.

The best beach for privacy

Cofete - The fact that this beach is difficult to reach is an advantage for people who want privacy. This 5 kilometre long stretch of white sand is the ideal spot if you are looking for space. This beach cannot be reached by bus. The best option is to hire a car.
Location: Closest point is Morro Jable.
