here are four ways of shopping in Gran Canaria: buying souvenirs, browsing along the main shopping street, wandering around a shopping centre and haggling on the local market. Whatever you are looking for, the island has it all! The largest concentration of shops can be found in the four-storey Yumbo Centre in Maspalomas, where over 200 shops sell everything you might need. In the capital, the long shopping street, Calle Mayor de Triana, is the perfect destination for more exclusive shopping.

If you want to find household objects and fashion accessories at the same location, you should go to one of the many shopping centres such as La Ballena, just outside of Las Palmas, or Las Arenas, at the Las Canteras beach. Or go to the renowned El Corte Inglés department store at Avenida Mesa y Lopez, Las Palmas. For simpler items, go to one of the many markets on the island. One of the largest, the Mercadillo de Vecindario, is held every Wednesday on the main square in Santa Lucia de Tirajana. And at the weekend, the Vega de San Mateo takes place where you can buy art, handicrafts and locally-produced foodstuffs.
