Destination Paphos
Practical information
Quickly check the following before you leave:
Border formalities
A valid passport or European identity card.
The weather
Cyprus has an equable climate. It is sunny and quite dry throughout the year. In the summer months, the average temperature is about 30ºC. On the coast, the sea wind cools the temperature down to a pleasant level.
Time difference
One hour later than the Netherlands
Language
Greek is spoken on the Greek part of Cyprus, while Turkish is spoken on the Turkish part. Signs are often written in English too. German and French are spoken in tourist areas as well.
Money
You will pay with the Cypriot pound (C£). Visitors are recommended to change their money when they get to Cyprus. The exchange rate is often better than in the Netherlands. You can check the exchange rate on http://www.travelex.com. Cash dispensers are present in all big towns. Credit cards and traveller’s cheques are accepted as well.
Electricity
240V, British plugs and sockets.
Transport
- Public transport: transport connections between the big places are quite good. There are dirt-cheap buses, cheap ‘service taxis’ that drive fixed routes, at fixed prices, and ordinary taxis.
- Your own transport: anyone wanting to see a lot of the country will find that a hired car is the way to go. If you want to explore Cyprus on two wheels you will have to bring your own bicycle; there are no bike hire businesses in Cyprus.
