Luxor's appearance is dominated by the fine Luxor and Karnak temples. These are floodlit at night, creating a magical effect. A visit to the tombs in the Valley of the Kings on the west bank is certainly worthwhile. In the tombs you go a few meters underground. The mysterious wall and ceiling paints, reliefs and pillared corridors are breathtaking.
Don't miss these highlights:
- Luxor temple: temple honouring the god Amon
- Karnak: formerly connected with the Luxor temple 2.5 km to the south
- The Valley of the Kings: with Tutankhamen's Tomb
- The terraced temple of Hatshepsut
- The Colosses of Memnon: two enormous statues of Amenhotep III
- Ramesseum: the temple of Ramses II
