As the historic capital of the Dauphiné, Grenoble is of course the place to try ‘gratin dauphinois’. If you prefer sweet things, you should definitely try the dessert ‘gâteau aux noix’ sometime. The best restaurants, especially those serving regional food, can be found in the areas of Place Grenette, Place Notre Dame and Place St-André.You should try:
- Gratin Dauphinois: potato gratin with béchamel sauce
- Gâteau aux noix: cake with ‘noix de Grenoble’ (the special walnuts from the region)
- Fondue & Raclette: these dishes with melted cheese are a speciality of this area
