The Voukourestiou, Patriarhou Ioakim, Skoufa, Tsakalof and Kanari shopping streets and the side streets all around Kolonaki are generally considered to be the best. There are many designer fashion shops, expensive boutiques and jewellers. Take a walk through Emporiko Centro, an exclusive passage with multiple storeys filled with gold, ties, watches, glasses and a Gucci boutique. In this area, you will also find Old Athens, a shoe and handbag shop with a sixties-flair, reminding one of a time when ladies still wore pearl necklaces à la Jackie Onassis and Maria Callas. The owner was a fashion editor before he started his own business and decided to provide some stimulus to the sale of Greek accessories. Ermou has developed into the main street for shoes but you can also buy handbags and shoes in Mitropoleos, between Syntagma and Monastiraki. In this area you will also find the market hall with the fish market at its centre. Around the fish market are the butchers and grocers and around the market hall you will find simple but good places to have a meal.
