Heraklion’s commercial centre lies in the triangle formed by Averof, 1821 and Kalokairinou streets, and in the streets surrounding it. There are many shopping streets with clothing and footwear for all ages and styles. Heraklion’s shopping centre does not differ greatly from those of other European cities. It is fun combining shops with the special delicatessens you’ll find in the same street: Loukoumades with honey and the famous bougatsa (tart filled with cream), for example. Apart from clothing shops, there are popular art shops and the traditional knife shops where you can get the famous Cretan knives. You will find products for preparing your own Greek meal on the lively traditional market in 1866 Street. There are many small shops in the side streets that sell local products and many gift shops in 1866 Street and its neighbourhood.
