Eating & drinkingEating & drinking

In the Netherlands, lunch consists of sandwiches. People also really love French fries or ‘patat’. “Bitterballen” – deep-fried balls of spicy stew, which is served with drinks – is a local speciality. But Amsterdam offers much more: you will discover many trendy and modern restaurants with an excellent international cuisine.

De Kas

This restaurant is situated in a renovated greenhouse that was built in 1920 and serves ecological haute cuisine. The chef determines the 5-course menu, which is based upon what is available and in consultation with the restaurant’s own vegetable cultivator. It is necessary to book some time in advance.
Address: Kamerlingh Onneslaan 3
tram: 9 to Hogeweg.

Homely charm and minimalism with the latest Italian hors d’oeuvres and delicious wines. The menu of the chef costs €50, but Envy is a delicatessen bar, which means you can also feel free to order a glass of wine and a few tapas.
Address: Prinsengracht 381
tram: 1, 2, 5 to the Spui.

The Mansion

A very trendy restaurant, bar and club. The restaurant is situated on the first floor and consists of three beautiful spaces and has a relaxed atmosphere. Make a reservation a few weeks in advance.
Address: Hobbemastraat 2
tram: 2, 5 to Hobbemastraat.

Odeon, an old brewery from the 17th century, has been completely renovated and transformed into a brasserie, restaurant, bar and club, all in one, where cultural events, such as exhibitions and concerts are also organised. Make sure you do not miss the photographic art with a 17th century theme in the cocktail bar. The nightclub is open from Thursday to Sunday.
Address: Singel 460
tram: 1, 2, 5 to Koningsplein.
