Practical information
Airport
Catania’s Fontanarossa airport is situated 7.5 kilometres to the south of the city. Buses (Alibus) connect the airport with Catania.
Local roads and transport
The best way to discover Sicily is by hired car. The road network and the toll roads (autostrada) in particular are well maintained. An alternative for the car is to travel by train from the station on the Piazza Giovanni XXIII to Messina, Syracuse, Palermo and other cities. A cheaper way to travel is by bus. The bus station is on the Via d’Amico.
Taxi
The taxi rates vary quite a lot and go up after 22h00. The 10% tip is sometimes included in the total price. Ask the driver whether the price includes the tip before starting your journey.
