Catania is sometimes called the Milan of Sicily. Not so much for fashion, but for its mercantile spirit. There are countless artisans, artists and small shopkeepers who sell their goods throughout Sicily. It’s worth visiting the covered market in the Pescheria, near the cathedral, even if you don’t want to buy any fish.

If you want to shop for the big brands, then the expensive Corso Italia and the small streets around the Via Pacini, the Via Umberto I and the Via Etnea are to be recommended.

Caltigerone’s reputation as a ceramics city dates right back to Roman times. Colourful cups, vases and much, much more can be bought in shops in the old part of Branciforti.
