The Neapolitans consider their cuisine to be one of the world’s best. Are they right? You will only know this after you have tasted a real pizza, various kinds of pasta with a tomato or meat ragu or fish, or the typical little cakes (babà and sfogliatella). Neapolitan cuisine consists of basic ingredients such as oil, pecorino cheese, tomato ragu and fragrant herbs.

Ristorante Mimì alla ferrovia

This vibrant fish restaurant has much in common with a Paris brasserie. It is stylish and has a good wine list.

This traditional restaurant lies by the water and at the foot of Castel dell'Ovo. Recommended dishes: fish starter, vermicelli with clams and courgettes, fish risotto.

Pizzeria Cafasso

All Neapolitans have their favourite pizzeria but they regularly return to Cafasso and Pellone. Simple, like all true pizzerias.

Gambrinus

The most fashionable and oldest café in Naples. You can find Naples’ best espressos here.

Moccia

A satisfying Neapolitan cake shop. If you are in the neighbourhood of San Pasquale a Chiaia, you need merely follow the enticing smells. You can enjoy tasty sfogliatella, brioches, mini-pizzas and tarts with cream here.

Aret’ A’ Palm

A dark room with a long marble bar and mirrored walls that remind you more of Paris than Naples. Recommended especially for young people. In the summer you can eat alfresco on the Piazza S. Maria La Nova.
