Eating & drinking
With 1800 km of coastline, Sardinia’s cuisine is of course bursting with dishes based on fish and seafood, but don’t forget the inland cuisine either. This “shepherd’s cuisine” consists of roasted mutton and goat, seasoned with wild herbs, rosemary, thyme and juniper berry. And of course, there is the famous Pecorino cheese.
Malloreddus, with sausages and tomato sauce, is Sardinia’s standard pasta dish. Desserts are served with local honey – try gattò, made of almonds, honey and orange peel – and the local red and white are of top quality. Restaurants and cafés in Alghero are listed below.
