The Romans like meeting each other at half-past seven to drink an aperitivo. They then go to a restaurant or home for the evening meal. What is more, the aperitif need not be alcoholic. Many bars serve small snacks with drinks, included in the price. After 23h00, most party-goers head for the Testaccio quarter. Here, amid the remains of ancient Rome, you will find a large number of locali, small restaurants from piano-bars to discos. Here you will also find the rock-bars of Akab and Radio Londra, the chic South-American Caruso and Rome’s first gay-disco, Alibi.

Repeatedly distinguished for its aperitivi, it serves a buffet with snacks after 18h00. A young people’s bar with a modern interior in Trastevere.
Address: Piazza Trilussa

Undoubtedly Rome’s most trendy establishment. A Sushi restaurant and, after midnight, a cocktail bar.
Address: Via del Teatro Pace 30

Bar della Pace

Everyone agrees: the Bar della Pace is Rome’s best spot for enjoying a cocktail and spotting celebs at the same time. Despite the fact that an ever-larger number of tourists visit the bar, film stars and the rich and famous from the media still come to this establishment.
Address: Via della Pace 4-7

If you want a comfortable start to the evening and prefer waiters in white jackets, you must visit Rosati on Piazza del Popolo. Nothing much has changed here since the sixties.
Address: Piazza del Popolo

One of Rome’s largest discos. Laser shows and hundreds of dancers. Leonardo di Caprio went into raptures about this place when the film Gangs of New York was showing in Cinecittà. Next door you will find Le Distillerie. A totally different atmosphere, quieter and with a bar and restaurant section.
Address: Via Libetta 13

The classic nightclub of Gilda lies in the Spanish Steps neighbourhood. Still always very tastefully fitted out. Attracts a somewhat older clientele in particular.
Address: Via Mario de’Fiori 97
