Airport

Rome’s main airport is called Leonardo da Vinci and is situated in Fiumicino, around 30 kilometres from the city centre. The airport is most easily reached by direct trains from the Termini station. Somewhat slower but very congenial are the stopping trains. The taxi ride from the airport to the centre of Rome takes about 20 minutes.

Public transport

The Termini station is the starting point for public transport in Rome. The city bus and tram company is called ATAC. You can buy tickets beforehand from ATAC vending machines, from newspaper stands and from the dispensers in the metro. The metro operates until midnight. After that, there are night buses whose stops are marked with an N.

Taxi

You will find taxi ranks everywhere in the city centre. You are advised to use licensed yellow and white taxis only. For journeys from and to the airport, a separate charge is levied per suitcase at night and on Sundays and public holidays. It is cheaper to stop a taxi on the street or at a taxi rank than to order a taxi. A tip of around 5 to 10% is customary.

Post Office

Post offices are generally open from 9h00-14h30 Mondays to Fridays and 9h30-13h00 on Saturday. You can also buy postage stamps in tobacconists. You can recognise them by the blue and white ‘Tabacchi’ sign or a T.

Chemist’s (Night service)

The night service is shared amongst pharmacies.
