Destination Venice
Shopping
You will find haute couture shopping around the Calle Larga and in the adjoining streets. Calle Larga extends from St. Mark’s Square to the Accademia bridge, where you will find famous fashion houses such as Armani, Gucci, Prada and Versace. There are also various banks in this neighbourhood. To find clothes by young Italian designers, go to BA BA on the Campo San Tomà, San Polo.
Venice is also renowned for its glass production. Bowls, vases and ornaments in one-off designs can be found in Galleria San Nicolo (Fondamenta Traghetto), an excellent place for discovering modern Venetian glassmaking. Nothing says ‘Venice’ more than the Carnival. Mondo Novo (Rio Terrà Canal near Campo Santa Margherita) is the place par excellence to buy traditional Venetian carnival masks.
For traditional spices visit Drogheria Mascari (Ruga dei Speziali), a traditional spice merchant. A long time ago there were many traders on the Ruga dei Speziali, but today only the Drogheria Mascari is left. The Venetians are also the biggest ice cream lovers in all of Italy. Marchin (Calle Spadaria) is where you will find the delicious dolci tipici Veneziani.
