Grenoble is an atmospheric city, surrounded by the mountains of the Dauphiné Alps. Neighbouring Lyon, the third largest city and food capital of France, will also not disappoint you. The old city centre of Vieux Lyon, which appears on UNESCO’s list of World Heritage Sites, is home to well-preserved buildings from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.

Don’t miss these highlights:

  • Musée de Grenoble: modern art by artists such as Picasso, Kandinsky and Warhol
  • Parc Paul Mistral: large park in the middle of the city
  • Église-Musée-St-Laurent: church and museum
  • Fort de La Bastille: beautiful panoramic view over the city. Can be reached by cable car or the stairways consisting of almost 400 steps.
  • Cathédrale Notre-Dame
  • The Musée Dauphinois shows what life used to be like in the Alps.
  • Palais Justice
  • The old district surrounding the Place Saint-André
