Shopping
The main shopping area lies directly on the Jardim Manual Bivar. At the top corner of the Rua Dr. Francisco Gomes, you are not far from Faro’s pedestrianised shopping area. Here you can find clothing, shoes and accessories, sports goods and furniture in an area that stretches for three to four blocks in all directions. The heart is the Rua de Santo António, where you can find the Gardy patisserie. Café Aliança can be found in the Rua Dr. Francisco Gomes.
The pedestrianised area ends in the North on the Praça Ferreira de Almeida. Here you can find Garrafeira Rui, the best wine shop in Faro. This shop sells products such as local sausages, cheese and confectionery. If you take the Rua do Lethes from here, and pass by the theatre of the same name on the right-hand side, continuing on via the Rua Dr. Justino Cúmano, you will arrive at Faro’s large fresh market, Mercado Municipal. This market is open until the early hours of the morning and it is the perfect place in which to familiarise yourself with the local fresh produce. The market is also open on Sundays during the summer.
Just before you reach the centre of Faro, on the EN125 in the direction of the airport, you will come to Forum Algarve. This is the city’s shopping centre, with its long, narrow, open-air courtyard.
