Cowboy country

From Lawrence of Arabia to David Beckham’s Pepsi advert, innumerous films have been shot in this desolate hinterland. Old movie sets have been turned into theme parks. Address: A7, km464, Tabernas. Bus to Tabernas from the bus station.

Nature at its finest

The 34,000 hectare nature park of Cabo de Gata-Nijar has beautiful beaches, lagoons which are a haven for birds, and mountains falling steeply down to the sea. Buses depart for the villages and the lively Mojácar, or hire a bike or a car to really get to know the area. Free Visitor Centre
