Border formalities

A passport which is valid for at least one further month on returning home.

The weather

Tunisia’s weather is very stable; it is 25-35ºC the whole year round, cooled by the seas.

Time difference

The same time as in the Netherlands.


Arabic and French but you can also make do with English and German at many tourist spots.


You pay in dinars, divided into 1000 millimes. Please note: importing and exporting dinars is strictly prohibited. Cash dispensers are present everywhere. Other means of payment are credit card and traveller’s cheques.




DTP and Hepatitis A are recommended but not mandatory. Visit for the most recent information.


  • Bus: the bus network extends over the whole country. They are not particularly comfortable (except for the long-distance buses), but they are cheap.
  • Train: a timetable can be obtained at any TSNCF station. The north-south line from Tunis to Gabes is very good, in particular.
  • Taxis: there are grands taxis that are allowed to travel throughout the country. But the regional yellow taxis with metres are cheaper. It is not usual to order a taxi, simply stopping one in the street is easier and cheaper. If it has no meter, you must negotiate the price.
