Destination Bodrum
Shopping
Cumhuriyet Cad is the name of the shopping street in Bodrum. It’s full of clothes, souvenirs and fake watches. Most brand products are high-quality fakes. Bodrum is a good place for anyone wanting to buy rugs, leather products or gold. Mehmet Çengel is a well-known and reliable rug dealer, who sells to both shops and private individuals and who has a high-quality range of products.
Diamonds is the name of the two interesting shops that sell both real Ottoman jewellery from the last century and imitation jewellery, and old-model wristwatches and antiques. If the prices are too high for you, you can always just enjoy the beautiful products for sale. (Cumhuriyet Cad. 43 and Kale Cad. 35).
You’ll find everything on the Friday market (next to the bus station), from live sheep to olive oil, loukma (a sweet delicacy), honey and adaçay. On Tuesdays, a clothes market is held at the same place. Visitors can visit this market for hand-made articles such as copper products, beautiful tiles and ceramics. Various famous rug-weaving areas can be found on the Turkish coast. In Milas, they make brick-red prayer rugs with broad borders. Haggling is a must when buying rugs.
