Passport & visa

To travel to Turkey, you will need a valid passport or a European identity card that must be valid for the period of intended stay. Apart from a valid passport or European identity card, you also need a visa to travel to Turkey. As of 10 April 2014, you need to apply for the visa before you travel. Visas are no longer issued at airports in Turkey. Payment is by credit card only. We recommend that you arrange your visa at least 24 hours prior to departure in order to ensure that the payment is made on time. Apply for a visa for your trip to Turkey

The weather

The average temperature in Dalaman is around 15ºC in the winter and around 30ºC in the summer.

Time difference

1 hour ahead of the Netherlands.

The currency of Turkey is the Turkish lira (YTL). Cash machines can be found throughout Turkey. Other methods of payment are credit cards and traveller’s cheques.

  • Bus: Bus travel is very cheap and well-organised. There are excellent connections between all major cities and smaller villages can also be reached by minibus.
  • Train: The train is not a popular mode of transport in Turkey, partly due to the fact that the trains are so slow. Train travel is very cheap; therefore only people who cannot afford a bus ticket actually use the train. An exception to this rule is the train journey between Istanbul and Ankara.
  • Taxi: Compared to the Netherlands, taxis in Turkey are very cheap. If you wish to make a long journey by taxi, it is a good idea to agree a price with the driver beforehand.
