Turkey is known for its beautiful carpets and ceramics, which are often hand-made and hand-painted. In nearby Bodrum, you can find a sociable bazaar district containing characteristic small shops and restaurants. The great bazaar is a must for a good look around and it is located at the foot of the castle. You can shop there until late in the evening. Some local specialities include sponges, soft cotton clothing and beads made from lapis lazuli, for warding off ‘the evil eye’.
