ShoppingShopping

You could almost say that shopping is Dubai’s raison d'être. The city is a genuine shop-till-you drop haven, with a staggering number of large modern shopping centres with air conditioning, markets, shops both large and small, and the famous gold, perfume, and spices souks. Credit cards are accepted almost everywhere, but, when it comes to getting a great bargain, cash is king!

souks
A souk is a traditional (covered) Arab market and you’ll find plenty of them in Dubai. Deira’s dazzling gold souk has around 320 stands. There are even special souks for perfume, Arab art and carpets. There are also plenty of cameras, computers and other electronic goods available at prices that are comparable to those found in Hong Kong or Singapore.

fish markets
There is a large fish market close to the sea as well as one on the Deira side entrance to the Shindagha Tunnel. Here you will find an astonishing selection of fish and shellfish (fresh from the sea), a good fish restaurant, and a museum dedicated to the history of Dubai as a fishing port. Delicacies and exotic fruits can be purchased from stands all around town and are all equally tempting.

shopping centres
Dubai has no shortage of modern Western style shopping centres with air conditioning, selling everything from electronics to clothing. The most famous shopping centre is Gardens Mall, considered one of the largest. Other popular malls are the Burjuman Centre, Lamcy Plaza, Village Mall and Oasis Centre.

taking a break
When you’re ready to take a break from shopping, most shopping centres offer an extensive food court, where you can enjoy everything from a simple hamburger or sandwich to a full-blown Arab meal. You name it, you’ll find it here!
