passengers who cannot walk (far)
In order to provide you with the best service possible, transavia.com wants to know whether you are able to walk independently, climb stairs or cannot walk at all. If you have such a limitation, we ask that you inform us of this during your online booking or once you have booked via My transavia.com. Based on this information, we will arrange for your receiving the proper assistance at the airport. If you booked through a travel agent or tour operator, please inform your travel agent or tour operator of your mobility limitation. You will have to inform your travel agent or tour operator in order for transavia.com to be able to process this information.
Walking frame, crutches or rollator
You do not need to report a walking frame, crutches or a rollator when you book a flight. You can find more information under medical facilities.
Report the transport of a wheelchair
To be sure that we can fulfil your wishes, we ask that you inform us online no later than 48 hours before your departure that you will be travelling with your wheelchair, no matter what kind it is. Your wheelchair may be no taller than 86 cm. We also kindly ask that you check in on time (2.5 hours before departure and 3 hours during the summer period) so that we can prepare your wheelchair for transport. During online booking or after booking your flight via My transavia.com, you can inform us about your wheelchair and to request assistance at the airport. If you booked through a travel agent or tour operator, please inform your travel agent or tour operator of your mobility limitation.
Handling at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol during departure and arrival
Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is responsible for providing assistance to passengers who have limited mobility when they need to move from the parking area and/or the NS arrival hall to the Amsterdam Airport Schiphol departure or arrival hall. At nine different locations at the airport, among others, on the platform at the NS station, at parking areas P1, P2, P3 and P7 and on the drop-off road in front of the halls, you will find special pillars, which you can use to request assistance. Amsterdam Airport Schiphol also has special assistance counters in departure hall 3/4 and departure hall 2 where you can ask for assistance.
If you report to the assistance counter or transavia.com in departure hall 3 at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, you will be accompanied to the aircraft in a wheelchair provided by Axxicom Airport Caddy. Your own wheelchair is transported in the luggage hold. When you arrive back at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol you will receive your wheelchair via the luggage conveyor. You will be accompanied from the aircraft until you reach the luggage conveyor in the arrival hall in a wheelchair provided by Axxicom Airport Caddy. We would like to request you to follow the instructions of the handler at Schiphol, when you depart and also when you arrive.
Handling at Paris-Orly during departure and arrival
Paris-Orly airport offers passengers who have limited mobility assistance for covering the distance between the parking area and departure/arrival hall. You need to request this assistance when you make your flight reservation or at least 48 hours in advance. If you depart from Paris-Orly, you may report to the check-in counter. The handler at the airport, PM Air, will accompany you to the aircraft. Your wheelchair will be loaded as hold luggage. When your flight arrives at Paris-Orly, an employee of PM Air will accompany you from the aircraft to the luggage conveyor in the arrival hall, where you may collect your wheelchair.
Handling at other airports during departure and arrival
At other airports the procedure may be different to the ones at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol or Paris-Orly. Please follow the instructions of the handler at the airport concerned. At a number of airports there may not be any footbridge available. Then an airline staircase is used. If you are unable to walk up or doe the stairs and if you have informed us about this in advance, we will ensure that you get on/off board. Please understand if this requires some improvisation.
Wheelchairs without battery
In most cases, you can take your own collapsible wheelchair (without battery) with you until you reach the aircraft. We will then load your wheelchair into the luggage hold. If you also require assistance prior to departure and upon arrival, you should report this immediately when you make your booking at the transavia.com call centre. At the airports outside the Netherlands or Paris-Orly, please follow the instructions of the handler on the spot.
Electrical wheelchairs (with battery)
An electrical wheelchair cannot be taken with you until you reach the aircraft. Somebody will accompany you to the aircraft in a wheelchair provided by the airport. We will then load your wheelchair in the luggage hold. We can only accept the transport of an electrical wheelchair with a (wet) battery under certain conditions. You have the obligation to report your wheelchair when you book your flight. For more information and the arrangement of the transport please get in touch with the transavia.com call centre. Please note: For departures from Copenhagen, wheelchairs or other means of transport powered with wet batteries cannot be transported.
Three-wheel electro scooters
Three-wheeled battery-powered mobility scooters will be accepted on board only if you have notified the transavia.com call centre of this at least 48 hours before departure. There is room for only one mobility scooter on each flight. The transport of a mobility scooter is free of charge. The height of a mobility scooter must not exceed 86 cm. You will need to make your mobility scooter ready for travel yourself. Please note: the check-in counter is not equipped with tools or other means to disconnect a battery. We can accept a battery-powered wheelchair only if the requirements for the transport of a battery are met.
Conditions for the transport of a dry (leak-resistant) battery
If the dry battery cannot be detached, one of these two these additional steps should be taken:
- The main switch on the wheelchair or other means of transport must be set in the “off” position
- The control panel on the wheelchair or other means of transport must be detached.
Conditions for the transport of a wet (non leak-resistant) battery
- For departures from Copenhagen: wheelchairs or other means of transport powered with wet batteries cannot be transported.
- Wheelchair/means of transport and battery should be loaded in an upright position (maximum height 86 cm)
- The battery should be tightly fastened to the wheelchair/means of transport and disconnected
- Isolate the poles with tape
- Load and unload the battery in packaging in an upright position
If the wheelchair or electronic means of transport cannot be loaded in an upright position, the battery should be removed and the wet battery should be transported in strong packaging, which meets the following requirements:
- The packaging should be leak and battery-acid resistant
- The battery should be protected against damage in the case of stowage
- Isolate the poles with tape to prevent short-circuiting
- The battery should be fastened in an upright position in the packaging
- The battery should be enclosed with sufficient absorbent material to absorb the entire content.
- Mark the packaging with the heading: BATTERIES, WET, WITH WHEELCHAIR and label it with the danger label: CORROSIVE and PACKAGE ORIENTATION label (arrow labels).
