transavia.com: Passengers’ right will be respected

24 settembre 2010

transavia.com announced the intended closure on the Danish market. As a reaction to that the Danish media has questioned whether the company would abide to Danish and international regulation concerning passenger rights. The company’s answer to the question is clear: transavia.com will respect all rights and regulations, both in relation to passengers and employees.

Is my flight cancelled or is it not? This question has been top of mind for many of the passengers, who booked a ticket for a transavia.com flight after November 1st. The background is that transavia.com has announced its intention to withdraw completely from the Danish market, but so far no flights have been officially cancelled. The reason is that the airline wishes to follow the Danish law completely.

- We really understand people’s anxiety and we wish that we would be able to provide more clear information. But when you have the intention to close a business in Denmark, you are not allowed to make the actual decision until you have completed a consultation procedure with your employees. We are legally not allowed to officially cancel our flight and reimburse the passengers prior to the end of the consultations, says Michiel Meijer, CEO of Transavia Danmark.

Transavia.com is currently in the middle of the consultation procedure, which is designed so that the employees get their chance to discuss their terms before an actual closure can take place. In the meantime transavia.com reassures that the company will follow all regulations to the letter, including EU regulation 261/2004 to which the Danish Civil Aviation Administration has been referring to in media. This regulation offers certain rights to passengers, in case of cancellation of a flight. As of now no final decision has been made, but transavia.com will apply this regulation as soon as a decision is final.

- It is our intention to close our business in Denmark, and if we were allowed to, we would already have commenced the procedure of reimbursing our passengers. But we have to follow the law regarding our employees as well as the law regarding our passengers, says Michiel Meijer.

Once the consultation procedure is completed, all passengers will be notified via email. To give passengers as much information as possible in the given situation, transavia.com has now published a list of flights that they intend to cancel on the website transavia.com.
