transavia.com starts passing on flight tax from 20 December
20 December 2007
Yesterday, the Upper House of Dutch Parliament approved the Tax plan. As part of the Tax plan, the Dutch government will start introducing a tax on all flights departing from the Netherlands form 1 July 2008. transavia.com is legally obliged to levy these taxes and transfers the entire tax amount to the Dutch government via the airport tax.
transavia.com has decided to start levying this Dutch Government tax, which is also called ticket tax of eco tax, immediately. Therefore, as from midnight, the tax will be levied on all transavia.com flights, which depart from the Netherlands on or after 1 July. For (return) flights that depart for the Netherlands from abroad, no Dutch Government tax needs to be paid.
The Dutch Government tax amounts to € 11.25 per person for flights within the EU up to 2,500 km. For specific destinations within the EU, such as the Canary Islands and destinations outside the EU and flights of more than 2,500 km a fare of € 45 per person applies.
transavia.com feels compelled to start levying this tax immediately to ensure that the additional administrative work, which is involved in levying the tax retrospectively, is not increased any further.
Passengers who have already booked a flight for the period after 1 July will be approached by transavia.com to request them to make the additional payment for the tax that has not yet been paid.
