Transport to/from the airport

Hurghada Airport is located about 12 km from the city centre. You can travel to/from the airport by taxi or bus.
  • Taxi

    You will find taxi ranks outside, in front of Terminal 1. It is recommended to agree on a fixed price in advance in order to prevent any unpleasant surprises.
  • Bus

    It takes less than 15 minutes to get to the centre of Hurghada by minibus. It is advised to agree on a fixed price with the bus driver in advance, in order to avoid spending more than necessary.

Transport in the city/region

Travel anywhere within Hurghada: 
  • Bus

    The cheapest way to travel is by minibus. You can hail them on the street by holding up your hand. There are 'regular' buses too. These are perfect if you intend to travel a long way in a short space of time.
  • Taxi

    Hurghada has two types of taxis: the 'regular' taxi and the luxury taxi. The luxury taxis are more expensive and can often be found in front of hotels. The 'regular' taxis you can hail anywhere on the street.

Important information

  • You need a visa to enter Egypt.
  • If you have been in a country with yellow fever seven days before your arrival in Egypt, you are required to be vaccinated against yellow fever. 
  • It is recommended to be vaccinated for Hepatitis A and DTP. This is not obligatory.
  • We advise against drinking tap water in Hurghada. Should you wish to drink water, it is best to buy bottled mineral water at one of the supermarkets.

You need a valid passport. Your passport needs to be valid for at least 6 months upon your return.

GMT +0 (no summer time) 
In winter, it is 1 hour later in Hurghada than it is in the Netherlands. In summer, there is no time difference with the Netherlands.


The currency used in Hurghada is the Egyptian Pound (EGP).

Duration of flight

The flight to Hurghada lasts approximately 5 hours. The outbound and inbound flights may be shorter if the wind direction is favourable.
