You can wander around here for hours along stalls with fresh produce, crafted materials and wooden masks. The best view over the city is from Arch 22, an arched gate into the city.

Transport to/from the airport

Banjul Airport is located about 24 km from the city centre. You can travel to/from the airport by taxi.

    The taxis are parked in front of Banjul Airport. You will find list of taxi rates on the wall outside the terminal to the right.

Transport in the city/region

Travel anywhere within Banjul:
  • Bus

    Gambia has a well organised bus service. The bus is the perfect mode of transport when travelling outside the centre of Banjul. 
  • Taxi

    The best way to travel in Gambia is by taxi. Usually, you can hail a taxi at your hotel. Apart from the 'normal' taxis, there are also bush taxis. These are minibuses which are easy to recognise by their yellow number plate. You can hail bush taxis anywhere on the street.

  • The plugs used in Banjul are different from those used in the Netherlands. The maximum allowable voltage is 230V, so bring an adapter for your electrical equipment!
