Transport to/from the airport

Athens Airport is located about 33 km from the city centre. You can travel to/from the airport by taxi, bus or metro.
  • Taxi

    Taxis are waiting for you at exit 3, in front of the arrival hall. A taxi drive costs somewhere between €20 and €30, depending on your arrival time and the quantity of luggage.
  • Bus

    Express bus X96 departs every 20 minutes from outside the arrival hall to the centre of Athens. Tickets cost €3.20 and the journey lasts approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.
  • Metro

    The best way to get to the centre of Athens is by taking metro line 3 (blue line). The trip to the city takes about 40 minutes. You can buy your tickets either at the ticket desk or from the ticket vending machines at the airport. A ticket costs €8.

  • Metro

    Do you want to explore the suburbs of Athens? The metro offers the fastest connections, and is clean and modern as well.
  • Bus

    The buses in Athens are easy to recognise by their white and blue colours. Tickets are cheap and the network of bus routes is extensive.
  • Taxi

    You can hail a taxi anywhere on the street in Athens. You can recognise them by their yellow colour. Note: It is a custom in Athens to share taxis, even when you hail one on the street.

You need a valid passport or identity card.  

Time zone

GMT +2 (summer time +3) 
In winter, it is 1 hour later in Athens than it is in the Netherlands.


The currency used in Athens is the Euro (EUR).

Duration of flight

The flight to Athens lasts approximately 3 hours and 15 minutes. The outbound and inbound flights may be shorter if the wind direction is favourable.
