Wroclaw is still relatively unknown, but this Polish city deserves a place on your bucket list! There is more than enough to see in Wroclaw, which is why it was rightly crowned the cultural capital city of 2016. You can find Europe’s largest market square in the heart of Wroclaw: Rynek. Here, you will be pleasantly surprised by the view of the coloured houses with their various façades and shapes.

The most notable feature of Wroclaw is its bridges. The city has no less than 120 of them and they connect the city’s 12 different islands. You can hang a padlock on the turquoise Tumski Bridge to seal your love. Fun fact: you can currently find more than 300 gnomes in Wroclaw. Every hot spot in the city has one.

Transport to/from the airport

Wroclaw Airport is approximately 20 kilometres west of the city centre. You can travel to and from the airport by taxi or bus. 
  • Taxi

    Taxis are outside the airport. It takes about 20 minutes to travel to the city centre by taxi.
  • Bus

    During the day, bus number 406 travels to and from the airport. At night, you can take bus number 249. The journey takes about 30 minutes.

Transport in the city/region

Travel anywhere within Wroclaw:
  • Tram

    Don’t feel like walking? Then just take the tram in Wroclaw. They cross the entire city centre. You can buy a ticket at a kiosk or a ticket vending machine. 
  • Bus

    Wroclaw has about 120 bus lines, they generally operate from 4 am until midnight. A single ticket costs 4 zioty (about €1).
  • Taxi

    Make sure you hail an official taxi in Wroclaw. You can recognise these by the logo on top of the taxi, the prices in the windscreen and by the fact the taxi metre only starts running when you drive away. Do keep in mind that the fares can be more expensive after 10 pm.
  • Train

    If you will be staying in Wroclaw for a longer, period then from here, you can travel to other Polish cities, such as Krakow.

You need a valid passport or identity card.

GMT +1 (summer time +2)
There is no time difference between Wroclaw and the Netherlands. 


The currency used in Wroclaw is the Polish zloty (ZL or PLN). 

Flight duration

The flight to from the Netherlands to Wroclaw is about two hours. The outbound and inbound flights may be shorter if the wind direction is favourable.
