Transport to/from the airport

Madeira’s airport is located about 19 km from the centre of Funchal. You can travel to/from the airport by taxi or bus.
  • Taxi

    The taxi ranks are outside the arrival hall. The taxi journey to the centre of Funchal costs about €25.
  • Bus

    The buses are about 100 metres from the arrival hall. The bus stops several times in Funchal so that most hotels are easy to reach. The journey to the centre of Funchal takes about 40 minutes.

Transport in the city/region

Travel anywhere on Madeira:
  • Bus

    The bus is the most important form of transport on Madeira. Almost all the buses start and end their journeys in Funchal. The buses do not have fixed stops. You can stop them anywhere to get on and off.
  • Taxi

    Taxis are cheap in Madeira. So travelling by taxi is a good alternative for buses. You can recognise the taxis by their yellow colour with blue stripes. You can hail them anywhere. Tip: some taxi drivers are available for day trips on Madeira.
