Transport to/from the airport

Ankara’s airport is located about 28 km from the city centre. You can travel to/from the airport by taxi or bus.
  • Taxi

    The taxi ranks are outside, in front of the arrival hall. You can take a taxi at any time of the day and night. 
  • Bus

    Bus 443 runs between the airport and the centre of Ankara. Get out at Kizilay in the new centre. There are also shuttle buses from Havas to the city centre. 

Transport in the city/region

Travel anywhere within Ankara: 
  • Metro

    There are two metro lines in Ankara. They join up at Kızılay station.
  • Bus

    Ankara has a good bus network. Take a dolmus. These are mini-buses that you can stop anywhere on the street. The dolmus runs along a set route from one of the bus stations. There are also 'regular' city buses.
  • Train

    Do you want to visit other large cities in Turkey? There are high speed trains, for example to Istanbul.
  • Taxi

    You can hail a taxi anywhere on the street in Ankara. The taxi fares are higher at night than during the day.

  • It is recommended to be vaccinated for Hepatitis A and DTP. This is not obligatory.


You need a passport or identity card that is still at least valid for at least 6 months when you arrive. Apart from a passport or identity card, you also need a visa. 

Since 10 April 2014 you are required to obtain a visa before you travel. You cannot get a visa at airports in Turkey any more. You can only pay for your visa with a credit card. To make sure that your payment is made on time, we recommend arranging your visa at least 24 hours in advance. Please note! Do you have a French passport? Then you do not need to apply for a visa. The currency used in Ankara is the Turkish Lira (YTL).

Duration of flight

The flight to Ankara is about 4 hours. The outbound and inbound flights may be shorter if the wind direction is favourable.
