When are you flying to Sharm el Sheikh?

Nestled in a desert, it is hardly surprising that Sharm el Sheikh has a desert climate. Fortunately there is always a refreshing breeze in the summer making it very pleasant. With temperatures mostly above 20 degrees, Sharm el Sheikh is the perfect destination for a sunny holiday all year round!

Transport to/from the airport

Sharm el Sheikh Airport is located about 17 km from the city centre. The only form of transport to/from the airport is by taxi.
  • Taxi

    You will find taxi ranks outside, in front of Terminal 1. It is recommended to agree on a fixed price in advance in order to prevent any unpleasant surprises.

Transport in the city/region

Travel anywhere within Sharm el Sheikh:
  • Bus

    The cheapest way to travel is by minibus. You can hail them on the street by holding up your hand. There are 'regular' buses too. It is convenient to travel by 'regular' bus if you intend to travel a long way in a short space of time.
  • Taxi

    Taxis are considered a luxury in Sharm el Sheikh. Hence, travelling by taxi is much more expensive than travelling by bus. You can hail a taxi anywhere on the street in Sharm el Sheikh. 

Important information

  • You need a visa to enter Egypt.
  • If you have been in a country with yellow fever seven days before your arrival in Egypt, you are required to be vaccinated against yellow fever.  
  • It is recommended to be vaccinated for Hepatitis A and DTP. This is not obligatory.
  • We advise against drinking tap water in Sharm el Sheikh. Should you wish to drink water, it is best to buy bottled mineral water at one of the supermarkets.

Passport and visa

You need a valid passport. Your passport needs to be valid for at least 6 months upon your return. 

Time zone

GMT +2 (no summer time) 
In winter, it is 1 hour later in Sharm el Sheikh than it is in the Netherlands. In summer, there is no time difference with the Netherlands.


The currency used in Sharm el Sheikh is the Egyptian Pound (EGP).

Duration of flight

The flight to Sharm el Sheikh lasts approximately 5 hours. The outbound and inbound flights may be shorter if the wind direction is favourable.
