Monte Toro is the highest mountain on Menorca. Take the windy road and walk to the summit of the 357-metre-high mountain. It is certainly worthwhile as you have fabulous view of the island from the top. In clear weather you can even see the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range of Mallorca! On top of the mountain is the Santuario de la Virgen del Toro, a Franciscan abbey from the 17th century. So two of Menorca’s sights in one! The abbey contains a statue of the Holy Virgin Mary with a bull at her feet. The Santuarii de Toro is also a pilgrimage site. During the Festa de la Verge del Toro, after the pilgrims have attended mass, they descend the steps of the mountain on their knees to Es Mercadal.
If you like nature, then do not miss this large nature park in Spain. Parque Natural de s’Albufera des Grau is situated in the north-east of Menorca. It is inhabited by countless bird species and other small animals. You can take lovely walks there and it has a beautiful lake. The park is located in Es Grau, a small village with a beach.
Mahón is Menorca’s largest city and where you can find many sights. The old city centre has lots of historical buildings, such as the Santa Maria Church and the city hall from 1789. You will find a Medieval gate from 1359 on the Pont de Sant Roc. Also take a walk to the harbour at Mahón, it is where you will find the Castel of Sant Felip and Fort La Mola. Enjoy a delicious meal in the evening on the lively square Plaça de s’Esplanada.
The town of Ciutadella is definitely worth visiting. It has a large pedestrian area, so that you can easily discover the town by foot. Go and see the beautiful inner courtyards and fountains. In the middle of the town of Ciutadella is a cathedral from 1287. Moreover, there is a lovely harbour with shops, bars and restaurants. Boat trips depart from here to the beaches of Menorca.
For a great day out with the children, visit Los Delfines Aquapark. In this water park you will find various slides, an adventure river and water tunnels. And while the children play, you can relax in a wonderful Jacuzzi or with a book on a sun lounger.
