At Transavia, we are taking steps to make flying more and more sustainable. We take a number of small and big steps, with consideration for people, the environment and society. But to be fair, we have a long way to go. We are here to tell you what we are already doing, such as using more sustainable fuel, known as SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel).
SAF stands for Sustainable Aviation Fuel. This fuel is a cleaner and more environmentally friendly alternative to fossil fuels that emit lots of CO2. SAF is made of all sorts of sustainable and renewable sources, for example, forest and agricultural residues or old plant-based and animal fats, such as used frying oil. Even CO2 from the air and green hydrogen are used to create SAF. In general, all waste and residue from the circular economy are suitable for creating SAF.
At the moment we still use very little SAF, but of course we want to use more of it in the future. Our goal is in 2030 to be using at least 14% SAF. We are working towards this goal by increasing the percentage of SAF we use each year. In addition, we are helping to speed up the production and implementation of SAF. This way it will become more affordable and more accessible for everyone.
We still don’t know which solution will end up winning, and whether it will be permanent. This is why we invest in multiple solutions. This way we contribute towards more sustainable aviation.
Apart from flying on more sustainable fuel, we are also working towards a future where electric flying is accessible for everyone. Want to know how we do it? Find out more here!
