Want to explore the mountainous landscape of Andalusia by bike without tough climbs? Look no further than the green cycle route Via Verde de la Sierra! This route goes over an old railway line from the beginning of the 20th century and runs for 36.5 kilometres from Olvera to Puerto Serrano. Passing through 30 tunnels and over 4 viaducts, the route is quite flat and easy for various cycling levels despite the mountains. A highly recommended stopover: discover the old stations along the way that have been transformed into unique hotels and restaurants.
Tip: combine this cycling route with a city trip to the sunny southern Spanish city of Seville. Fly to Seville from Amsterdam, Eindhoven or Brussels.
In the mood for adventure? This impressive mountain bike route is for you! The Parenzana route is 123 kilometres long and crosses the diverse Istria peninsula, from Trieste in Italy to Poreč in Croatia. Cycle through impressive mountain landscapes, enjoy green views and stop off in the many atmospheric historic villages like Savudrija, Buje and Vižinada. Most of the route is unpaved, so there is no lack of adventure while cycling! Prefer to cycle just part of the route? This region is still worth a visit.
Ready to hit the road? Book your flights to Ljubljana in Slovenia, or Pula or Rijeka in Croatia. These cities are close to the route so you can start your cycling holiday immediately.
Are you an experienced cyclist? And do you like multi-day bike tours? The Canal du Midi cycle route winds through the beautiful southern French countryside, from Sète on the Mediterranean Sea via Toulouse to Bordeaux. The green cycle route runs along old towpaths by the canal and through a number of historic villages like Carcassonne. With no less than 525 kilometres of cycle paths, you will be on the road for around 5 to 10 days in total. A real challenge!
Tip: visit the striking city of Montpellier before or after your bike tour. Admire the historic architecture and enjoy a relaxing afternoon on one of the beautiful beaches.
