What are the luggage rules for electrical devices with a lithium battery?
You can bring a total of up to 15 electrical devices with a lithium battery of up to 100 Wh each. These are, for example:
- telephones;
- tablets;
- e-readers;
- laptops;
- e-cigarettes.
Electrical devices in your cabin bag
You will often be allowed to take a cabin bag on board, such as a trolley or backpack. But if you choose to check in your cabin bag or have to hand your cabin bag at the gate, let our ground handling colleagues know you are carrying one or more electrical devices with lithium batteries.
For safety reasons, it is important that you take electrical devices with you in the cabin, in your hand luggage (e.g. a handbag or a small backpack that fits under the seat in front of you). If you booked a cabin bag, you can also leave electrical devices in your cabin bag, but make sure you disconnect the battery and switch off the devices. You may have to hand in your cabin bag at the gate. If that is the case, let our ground handling colleagues know you are carrying one or more electrical devices with lithium batteries.
If you have loose lithium batteries with you (as well), such as a power bank, put those in your hand luggage or cabin bag. For safety reasons, those cannot be transported in the hold.
Electrical devices in your hold luggage
We recommend taking fragile electronic devices in your hand luggage. This includes items such as your laptop, tablet, camera, adapter and power bank. This will not only reduce the possibility of any damage, but devices such as your laptop or tablet can also be useful during your flight. Download a series before departure or finish up some work during your flight.
Do you prefer to take your device in the hold? Pay attention to the following:
- Protect your device from damage;
- Remove the battery (if possible) and take the battery in your hand luggage;
- Completely shut down the device. It is not permitted to leave it on stand-by or sleep mode.
Always follow the crew’s instructions on board for a safe flight.
Electrical devices without a lithium battery
If you are bringing an electrical device without a lithium battery, such as an electric shaver, you can put this in your cabin luggage or in your hold luggage. Electrical devices without a lithium battery The only condition is that the appliances are plug-operated.
