Book your plane ticket to Brest

The French city of Brest is situated in the most western point of beautiful Brittany. It is a stunning area where the landscape has been formed by the tides and sea wind. But that doesn’t mean it is always windy and raining here, on the contrary! The warm golf stream provides lovely mild temperatures, even in winter. So it’s a place you can visit at any time of the year.

Out and about in Brest

You can discover something new each and every day in Brest! One such treat is the botanical gardens. These gardens are an enormous nature area that will leave you astounded. But the highlight is probably the Oceanopolis aquarium, with its three pavilions, 50 aquariums and a million marine species. You can easily spend an entire day here. Once you’ve seen enough fish, then in the late afternoon you can step on the cable car (Le Téléphérique) that also serves as a tram. Enjoy the spectacular view by daylight and as the sun goes down. We are not kidding when we say that Brest is at its most beautiful in the twilight hours.

Historic and modern Brest

Brest was not spared during the Second World War and you see that reflected in the beautiful, modern architecture that was built afterwards. At the time, Brest was an important military port, and it still is today. Luckily though a few exceptional medieval buildings were left unscathed, such as the Tanguy Tower and the castle ‘Château de Brest’, which is the oldest castle in the world still in use. And, of course, Brest is the home of a large harbour. A walk along the lively promenade is an experience in itself!

A sprinkle of salt!

France and delicious food belong together. So you won’t be surprised that the port city is filled with good fish restaurants. There is an abundance of crab, mussels and shellfish and, as you would expect in France, they are all exceptional well prepared. Brittany, however, is mostly known for another outstanding speciality: salted butter. You can get it in all shapes and flavours and there are very few dishes that don’t contain it as an ingredient. Mouth-watering! When will you be diving into the port city of Brest?
