The Spanish city of Bilbao is located in the Basque Region along the Atlantic Ocean. The city is well-known for its splendid modern architecture and for the Guggenheim museum. But that’s not all! In recent years, Bilbao has shown itself to be hip & happening place for culture, art and naturally, Spanish cuisine. Do you fancy a city trip to Spain? Discover Bilbao!

This Spanish city has flourished over the last few years into a destination that is worth visiting. In addition to modern architecture, you will also find many historic buildings dating from the 14th century. Wander through the delightful historic city centre, Casco Viejo. The city centre is crammed with great sights, and you can also enjoy some delicious tapas here after your walk. However, the tapas in Bilbao have a special local twist and are known as ‘pintxos’. They are an authentic Basque delicacy that you really must try. What to do once you’ve finished eating? For an amazing view of the city, take the funicular. This cable car takes you to the top of the Artxanda mountain.

Let's go to the beach

Since the city is located on the coast, you can easily swap a day in the city for a day on the beach! You can get to Playa de Ereaga in around 20 minutes by metro. If you want something more active, the Basque coast is a paradise for surfers. Anyone who loves walking, stand-up paddle surfing and canoeing won’t believe their luck either.

Marvel at the Guggenheim

The Guggenheim is synonymous with Bilbao. The arrival of the Guggenheim in Bilbao was quite an event in this former industrial city. This museum has since become the main attraction of Bilbao. You don’t even need to go inside to see why as this exceptional building is made of glass and titanium, making it a sight to behold in itself. Art lovers will of course buy an admission ticket to admire the large collection of modern art. So if you love the coast, you should definitely visit!
