In the south of France on the Atlantic Ocean lies the lovely seaside resort of Biarritz. As well as the classic sun, sea and sand, you can experience much more in this surfing village. Historic sights in Biarritz

Many tourists travel to Biarritz to enjoy the lovely weather and the beach. But there is also plenty of culture to discover. The most well-known sight is the lighthouse on the Pointe Saint-Martin. You can climb this 47-metre high lighthouse from 1834. The 250 steps will take you to the top from where you can enjoy the amazing view over the bay of Biarritz. In addition to the lighthouse, you can visit Villa Eugenie, Napoleon's historic summer residence from 1854. It is now a hotel so you can even spend the night there.

The best of the French coast

Done enough cultural activities and want some relaxation? Then wander down to Port de Pêcheurs, Biarritz’s old fishing harbour. The adorable tiny fishing houses instantly give you that ultimate holiday feeling. It is also where you will find plenty of delicious eateries and luxury restaurants where you can enjoy the finest dishes such as escargots and fresh fish. After lunch, the sportier holidaymakers among us can cool down on a surf board. Biarritz is famous for its ultimate surfing waves, after all.
