Walk or cycle past monumental highlights

When you wander through Bordeaux it’s like you have stepped into a history book. The city has rightly earned its place on the UNESCO World Heritage List. There is some impressive architecture, such as the Grand Theatre, Bordeaux’s own ‘Statue of Liberty’ and the Monument des Girondins, a 43-metre high column at Place de Quinconces. If you want to see all the best sights in one go then join a UNESCO tour. It is a great way to discover all of Bordeaux’s gems. The city has an intriguing history but the many bridges in the city are just as impressive. Prefer to explore the city by bike? Then you are in luck. Bordeaux is flat, easy to navigate and bike friendly. Get on a bike and, in no time at all, you will discover all the great spots and city’s districts that you must go to during your city break. 

Antique shops in Bordeaux’s best districts

Bordeaux has four trendy districts, each with their own appeal: Les Chartrons, Bacalan, Saint-Michel and La Bastide. If antiques and vintage are your thing, then go to the neighbourhood of Les Chartrons. There you can wander through the little streets around Place de Langalerie and you will find the best shops. While you are there, don’t forget to visit Village Notre-Dame. It is an historic building housing various antique shops.

You can’t go to Bordeaux and not taste some wine! This French city is the birthplace of the fantastic wines from the Médoc, Saint-Emilion and other famous wineries, after all. It therefore goes without saying that there are plenty of wonderful wine bars where you can drink to your heart’s content. Worked up an appetite? Then the French cuisine will certainly satisfy you. The many patisseries and coffee shops are characteristic of Bordeaux and you will encounter them all over the city. 

Discover the area around Bordeaux

There is no lack of things to do in the area around Bordeaux either. Your city break can easily be combined with a few days exploring the rest of the region. You can go to Dune du Pyla, one of the largest dunes in France and possibly even in Europe. The region also has many vineyards open to visitors. Wander through the wine fields and sample the finest wines at the local farms. Another option is to travel to the picturesque village of Arcachon and enjoy the delicious oysters.
