Ponta Delgada is the largest city in the Azores, but that doesn’t mean it is hectic or busy. On the contrary, it is an oasis of peace. Typical of Ponta Delgada are the Portas da Cidade, which were built in the 18th century. These gates are located on a square in the heart of the city centre. You will also find many hot springs on the island that are worth a visit, such as Terra Nostra Garden and Caldeira Velha. At this last natural hot spring you can swim to a warm waterfall while surrounded by giant palms and ferns. Sounds like a tropical fairytale, doesn’t it?
