Once you step into the old walled part of the city - the Medina - you will immediately lose yourself in the narrow streets while the smells of the traditional cuisine make your mouth water. Admire old crafts and have a nice souvenir made on the spot. Or visit the beautiful fish market with an amazing display of seafood. Tired of wandering through the Medina? Unwind with a mint tea in one of the charming coffee shops.

Historical treasures

Lovers of old buildings can indulge themselves in Sfax. You will find Arab, Roman and Ottoman cultures in the ancient architecture. Visit the town hall on Place de la République, a typical example of French colonial construction. You will discover historical treasures in literally every nook and cranny of the city centre. For fantastic views, climb the narrow streets to the La Kasbah museum. This area is also a good spot to relax. The silence there, a contrast to the busy city sounds of Sfax, can also be found in the meditative stillness of the old Grand Mosque.

In addition to the old parts of the city, the neighbourhoods around the centre are also lovely to visit. You will stroll past parks, beautiful white villas as well as enormous office buildings. Or would you like to go outside of town? Take the ferry to the Kerkennah Islands. Here you will step back in time. Switch off your phone and just enjoy the experience! Driving a bit to the south, you will find yourself in a fairytale landscape. You can visit the villages with underground houses, which were once also used as film sets for a number of Star Wars scenes.
