Transport to/from the airport

Nikos Kazantzakis Airport in Heraklion is one of the three largest airports on Crete. The airport is located about 5 km from the city centre. You can travel to/from the airport by taxi or bus.
  • Taxi

    The taxi ranks are outside, in front of the arrival hall. A taxi drive to the centre of Heraklion costs approximately €15. 
  • Bus

    The public transport company KTEL operates the buses to/from the airport. Especially in summer, buses 1 and 78 run frequently to the city centre. A ticket costs approximately €2 and can be bought from the bus driver.

Transport in the city/region

Travel anywhere within Heraklion: 
  • Bus

    On Crete, the bus is the cheapest mode of transport. You will find bus stations in the larger areas of Heraklion. Tickets can be bought at the bus station, the local kiosk or from the bus driver. 
  • Taxi

    Take a taxi to explore the island. Travelling by taxi is much cheaper in Heraklion than it is in the Netherlands. Are you going out for the evening? Take a taxi! Buses do not run at night.
