Transport to/from the airport

Barcelona’s airport is about 16 km to the south west of the city. You can travel to/from the airport by taxi, bus or train.
  • Taxi

    There are taxis at terminals 1 and 2. Do not just get into a taxi, but join the queue and wait for an available taxi.
  • Bus

    Buses go from terminals 1 and 2 to the Plaza de Catalunya in the centre of the city. The buses are run by the company Aerobus.
  • Train

    Should you wish to travel by train, the railway station is opposite the terminals. There is a train to the city every half hour. The journey takes approximately 25 minutes.

Transport in the city/region

Travel anywhere within and from Barcelona:
  • Metro

    The metro is the fastest and cheapest way to explore the sights. Barcelona’s metro consists of 11 lines, each of which has its own colour. Buy your ticket from the ticket counters or from the vending machines in the metro stations.
  • Bus

    The company TMB operates the buses in Barcelona. Barcelona has many one-way streets which means that the journey to your destination can take longer than you would expect.
  • Tram

    The tram network consists of 7 lines. These are perfect if you want to visit the areas on the outskirts of Barcelona.
  • Taxi

    The official taxis are recognisable by their black colour and yellow sides. You can hail them on the street or pick them up from the stations.

GMT +1 (summer time +2)
There is no time difference between Barcelona and the Netherlands. 


The currency used in Barcelona is the Euro (EUR).

Duration of flight

The flight to Barcelona is about 2.5 hours. The outbound and inbound flights may be shorter if the wind direction is favourable.
