Is cycling typically Dutch? No way!

The Dutch and their bikes may be inseparable, but in many European cities, cycling is becoming the most normal thing to do as well. Good news for us! You can see a lot more of the surroundings from a bike than from the metro or bus. And it’s a lot healthier too. Win-win! Do you want to know which cities you can do a scenic tour on two wheels? We have listed the best cycling cities for you.

Kos

Kos is a cyclists’ island. There are more bicycles here than cars. The island is relatively flat - especially in the north - and has plenty of bicycle paths. Many of them are along the coast and around the main city, Kos City. There are affordable bicycle rental shops on every street corner. And the lovely sea breeze makes cycling in the hot summer sun very pleasant.

Book an impressive cycle tour through the mountains and along the coast at Kos Bike Activities in Psalidi. If you head for the hills you can rent affordable electric bikes to explore the whole island.

The advantages of cycling

  • You see a lot more of the scenery than from the metro or bus
  • It is healthy and good for the environment
  • You get fewer blisters than walking and it is less taxing for your muscles (and definitely if you go for an electric bike!)
  • You can reach places that you would normally not see
  • You can determine your own speed
  • Nobody has to stay sober to drive a car

Seville

Seville is a beautiful town and has been at the forefront of urban cycling for a long time. Its 120 kms of bicycle paths accommodate 70,000 Sevillanos cycling every day. Cycling here is definitely not only for tourists. Renting bikes is really easy. Visit the Royal Palace, cycle across the Plaza de España or do a tapas tour by bike.

As its name suggests, you can explore Seville and its sights with or without a guide through SeeByBike. If you want to rent an electric bicycle, we recommend Elecmove Electric Bikes close to the city hall.

Copenhagen

Copenhagen is the number one cycling city. Everyone travels by bike - just like in the Netherlands! The city is flat and the infrastructure is completely geared to the large numbers of cyclists. Cycle through the hip neighbourhoods and across the Cykelslangen. This bicycle bridge winds like a snake through the harbour.

That Copenhagen is a popular cycling city is very apparent from the number of bike tours and rental companies. Some of the most highly recommended companies are: Nova Fairy Tales Copenhagen, Cycling Copenhagen and beCopenhagen Sightseeing & Bikes.
