In less than five hours you’ll be in the historical city centre of Amman. With its beautiful Roman ruins and incredible old architecture this city has an old soul. It’s like walking through a historic movie. But Amman is a very modern city as well, its very much alive and has great restaurants. Special sights? Visit the Citadel on the highest mountain and enjoy a stunning view over the city. But the amfi theater is worth a visit as well. Tip! 50 kilometres north of Amman is Jerash, one of the most important Greek-Roman-Byzantine cities. You’ll discover impressive temples, stunning squares and ancient ruins.
On the border between Jordan and Israel lies the Dead Sea. Possibly the most iconic natural wonder in the Middle East. It's called ‘dead’ because of its full of salt, way more than a normal body of salt water. Therefore it's impossible for anything to live in these waters. In and around the Dead Sea you’ll find wellness centres and spas where you can relax in mineral rich mud and therapeutic salt water. Want to see more? Combine your trip to the Dead Sea with a visit to Wadi Mujib. This is a beautiful canyon where you can walk down a stream through huge orange rocks. A very special place for a hike.
Petra is one of the most mysterious places on our planet and a must see on your trip to Jordan. Did you know Petra is one of the seven wonders of the world? After hiking about 8 kilometres down a very narrow path you reach this magnificent city. It’s completely carved out of the reddish rocks. Besides many houses, temples, petroglyphs and tombs you’ll find Petra’s flagship: Al Khazneh, also known as the room of treasures. Petra used to be a quiet place but it is buzzing with life now. Therefore: be sure to make the trip before the sun comes up so you’ll get out before it gets really crowded.
The magnificent Wadi Rum desert is more than an enormous body of sand. You’ll step into an impressive wild scenery where you can join many active tours. Go on a camel ride of join a hike for example. Or, if you like speed, touring around in a 4x4 is also a possibility. It’s also the best way to see many different places in the desert. Looking for even more adventure? Stay in the Wadi Rum overnight, in a Bedouin tent. A once in a lifetime experience to fall asleep with all those stars in the sky above you. Be prepared for a cold night though, it can cool down to 17 degrees while that day temperature is around 30 or 40 degrees!
The world below the surface is worth discovering as well so, meet the Red Sea. Right next to the border with Israel and the city of Eilat, the beach city of Akaba is where you want to go. It’ great to go snorkeling or diving here because it is known as one of the best places in the world to do so. And did you know that the weather is pretty much perfect every day? During the winter the temperature hardly drops below 10 degrees while summers often reach around 35 degrees. Don’t forget to bring your sunscreen!
